Literacy, Libraries, and Learning

We believe that literacy makes all things possible. Literacy levels affect public safety, economic development, and overall quality of life. In response to the growing need for literacy awareness in Clay County, the Clay County Education Association Retired is hosting a "Literacy, Libraries, and Learning" event, on Saturday, September 21, 2024, from 2:00 to 6:00 p.m., at Orange Park High School. We are partnering with the Orange Park Woman's Club, Beta Mu Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma, the Clay Education Foundation, and the Clay County Public Library to present this program. Our goal is to provide a variety of literacy activities, backpacks, school supplies, journals, and free books for the children of Clay County, in grades K-12.

This inaugural event will host celebrity writers, guest readers, stakeholders from the community, and entertainment. We will have a photo booth with literature characters, reading rooms, and age-appropriate activities. Vendor booth opportunities will help promote local businesses and non-profit organizations while providing school supplies and books for each child. A live and silent auction will raise money for future literacy programs. Please see the following page for booth and auction information. In addition, we will hold a reading challenge and writing/poetry contest, with prizes. Local authors will judge the writing contest, and the winners will be announced at a Fall school board meeting.

Thank you for considering participating in such an important and exciting program for our community children. We look forward to seeing you at Literacy, Libraries, and Learning!
